War thunder leaks classified6/2/2023 ![]() The developers of War Thunder do their best to research information on vehicles using legally available tools, and scandals like this are clearly not useful for our efforts. "While we understand that our players want the game to be as realistic as possible, we're kindly asking them not to do anything illegal and jeopardize their safety, as well as safety of our community team members. "Publishing classified information on any vehicle of any nation at War Thunder forums is clearly prohibited, and the game developers never use it in their work. Gaijin Entertainment also provided a statement to PC Gamer on the matter, saying "Our community managers immediately banned the user and deleted his post, as the information on this particular shell is still classified in China. So ultimately, if the original poster of the classified documents had just waited a tad, they could have avoided committing a pretty weird crime. One user on Resetera pointed out how the shell was added to a public development server, and that its values for things like penetration weren't necessarily set in stone. But you do have to wonder what people with access to this classified information think the definition of classified is.Īnd noted by PC Gamer, it's entirely possible that sharing these documents wasn't even necessary. The post was taken down by Gaijin Entertainment as soon as the developer was made aware of it. War Thunder is an MMO that bills itself as the most. The document goes into some technical malarkey that most people wouldn't care about, except for the person who shared the document in an attempt to correct an issue with its in-game counterpart. A War Thunder fan leaked classified military documents during an argument on the developer’s message boards earlier this week. The War Thunder Instagram page probably said it best: "Please don't send us classified documents, we really don't want to end up chained at the bottom of a disguised CIA cargo ship in international waters.According to UK Defence Journal, images appeared online May 31 showing off a Chinese DTC10-125 tungsten penetrator, sat on top of a document that detailed the projectile. The incident involved two fans arguing about the game's depiction of Britain's Challenger 2 Main Battle. We will always entirely reject any such documentation and resolve the matter with any legal requirements." The first time someone leaked classified documents on War Thunder forums was in July 2021. ![]() "The time it takes to review and process reports however is no reasoning, justification or any grounds to break legally defined permeameters in any way. It resulted in the UK Ministry of Defence writing to Cyprus-based Gaijin, informing them that the manual is classified and the person posting it, who claimed to be a Challenger 2 commander, could be violating the official secrets act.Ĭommunity manager Smin1080p writes that with over 2,000 vehicles in the game, issues like these can "take time to validate, check source material and implement if they indeed are found to be incorrect." ![]() Back in June, an argument over the size of the gap between the main turret and the hull led to a player posting classified information about the Challenger 2 tank. This isn't the first time War Thunder has dealt with users posting tank manuals. Moderators eventually removed the file and offered a warning to users: "Guys its not funnny to leak classified Documents of modern equipment you put the lives of many on stake who work daily with the Vehicles! Keep in Mind that those documents will be deleted immediately alongside sanctions. There were also arguments on the forum over whether the documents were classified. "It took ~11 seconds for the turret to make a complete turn, so 550 mil/s (31°) is indeed correct not 40°. The user later posted messages alleging that they were a member of a Leclerc Series 2 tank squad, which has been in service with the French military since 1992. A member called _RED_CROSS_ didn't agree with the claim that its turret rotates at 40 degrees per second, so they posted a file called 'Skerit document' that contained parts of the Leclerc's official gunner manual as proof. ![]() The latest incident revolved around the in-game depiction of the French Leclerc Main Battle Tank and its variants' turret rotation speed-many who enjoy War Thunder take its accurate recreation of military vehicles seriously.Īs reported by UK Defence Journal, Sunday saw an argument break out on the game's forum over War Thunder's representation of the Leclerc. WTF?! Who would have thought we'd reach a stage where developers are begging people not to post highly classified military documents on their forums, just to prove that something in a game isn't 100% accurate? Gaijin Entertainment, creator of military sim War Thunder, found itself in this situation after players leaked top-secret tank specs-twice.
